Technology and Materials - MonoPan® Sandwich Panel
MonoPan® Sandwich Panel  | Thermotex Moulded Products
MonoPan is manufactured by thermofusing high strength fibre reinforced thermoplastic skins onto a thermoplastic honeycomb core. The function of the outer structural skin is to provide the strength and impact performance whilst the inner lightweight plastic core material is simply there to separate the skins and thereby impart significant rigidity into the sandwich panels.
MonoPan is capable of transforming the economics of a wide variety of industries, and is applicable for use in the following sectors, among others:
  • Road transport
  • Rail and marine transport
  • Temporary structures
  • Construction and building materials
  • Materials Handling / Logistics products ie transport boxes / containers etc
  • Furniture
  • Many other applications
MonoPan is:
  • Lighter than wood (ie approximately ¼ weight FRP plywood), aluminium and glass reinforced-reinforced polyester (GRP).
  • High Strength.
  • High Impact Resistance - more impact resistant than wood, aluminium and GRP.
  • Waterproof and Impermeability - 100% waterproof and will not rot.
  • Highly Cost Effective.
  • Ease of Joining - based on electro-fusion, folding and welding techniques (i.e., non-adhesive MonoPan is easy to join and therefore offer the unrivalled ability to increase structural rigidity (durability) whilst reducing the reliance on traditional skilled labour.
  • Thermal Insulation - MSPs may be produced using a thermally insulating thermoplastic foam cores.
  • Fatigue Resistance – MonoPan has significantly enhanced fatigue resistance over alternative solutions due to the superior bond between the skin and core.
  • Corrosion Resistance – is one of the most water and chemically resistant materials available.
  • 100% Recyclable – MonoPan production waste, off-cuts and materials utilized in its manufacture can be reprocessed. MonoPan is recyclable at the end of its life.
  • Delamination Resistance – is delamination resistant, which is achieved by the superior thermofused weld between the skin and the core.
  • Energy Absorbent- the outer skin of MonoPan is used for ballistic applications, and ductility is provided by the thermoplastic core.
  • Ability To Be Post-Formed (i.e., Post-Manufactured) – because it is thermoplastic, MonoPan can be reheated and post-formed.
